I. Time and venue

The Ballet Competition is open for dancers of 6-16 years of age of all nations and countries. The Competition shall be organized publicly in two rounds:

SELECTIVE ROUNDS: On 18 June 2017 ( “Menų spaustuvė”, Šiltadaržio str. 6, Vilnius)) or in June – video review (Additional review – in September)

THE FINAL: 25-26 November 2017 (“Šokio Teatras”, T. Kosciuškos str. 11, Vilnius)

Registration for selective round starts February 1, 2017.

Compulsory Variations of the Competition by age groups are available on our internet website at: www.vilniusballetcompetition.com.

(Copyrights of 2017 Compulsory Variations are held by VYBC and are protected by the State of Lithuania. Until December 2017, Compulsory Variations of 2017 season may not be performed to the public, not during the VYBC. The performance of 2017 Compulsory Variations after the Competition shall be allowed only having obtained the approval of the VYBC organizers).


II. Age and groups

  • Group 1 – born in 2010
  • Group 2 – born in 2009
  • Group 3 – born in 2008
  • Group 4 – born in 2007
  • Group 5 – born in 2006
  • Group 6 – born in 2005
  • Group 7 – born in 2004-2003
  • Group 8 – born in 2002-2001

Participants of the Competition will participate in the group corresponding to their age or with participants who are older by one group.


III. Competition procedure

STAGE ONE/SELECTIVE ROUNDSJune 18, 2017 (selection of participants to Categories A and B)

The selection may be carried out in two ways:

During the first stage Competition organized by Eglė Špokaitė Ballet School (18 June, in Menų spaustuvė, Vilnius)

The performer’s video may be sent. It will be evaluated by the commission (video shall be sent by 31 May). Video may be sent to: link to drop box, link to YouTube, Google drive, as an attachment by e-mail.

VIDEO MAY BE SENT UNTIL THE END OF REGISTRATION!

Dancers of all groups shall perform the same Compulsory Variation corresponding to their age group.

The variation shall be performed wearing ballet class clothes. Groups 1-6 – ballet slippers, Groups 7-8 – either ballet slippers or pointe shoes (see Part IV).

The sequence order of performance of the Competition participants shall be determined according to their age. The youngest dancers of the group shall be the first to perform.

Videos sent by the Competition participants shall be evaluated by a random selection.

The participant of the Competition shall be registered when organizers receive the documents of registration (see Part VI).

 

STAGE TWO – THE FINAL – November 25-26, 2017 in Vilnius (The International Category A and B Ballet Competition)

Category A

Dancers of all groups shall perform two variations:

  • The same Compulsory Variation corresponding to their age group.
  • The free Classical Variation (Group 1 – duration max. 1 min., groups 2-3 – duration max. 1 min. 30 sec., groups 4-5 – duration max. 1 min. 45 sec.), Classical Repertoire Variation (Groups 6-8).

The Compulsory Variation shall be performed wearing ballet class clothes. Groups 1-6 – ballet slippers, Groups 7-8 – pointe shoes.

The Classical Variation shall be performed wearing a stage costume. Groups 1-5   ballet slippers, Groups 6-8 –pointe shoes (see Part IV).

The sequence order of performance of the Competition participants shall be determined according to their age. The youngest dancers of the group shall be the first to perform.

The Competition participant shall be registered only after selection of the STAGE ONE, when the permission to participate in category A is obtained and the registration documents are received by organizers (see Part VI).

When there are many participants, an additional round may be organized.

 

Category B

Dancers of all groups shall perform the same Compulsory Variation corresponding to their age group.

The Variation shall be performed wearing a stage costume. Groups 1-6 – ballet slippers, Groups 7-8 – either ballet slippers of pointe shoes (see Part IV).

The sequence order of performance of the Competition participants shall be determined according to their age. The youngest dancers of the group shall be the first to perform.

The Competition participant shall be registered when the registration documents are received by organizers (see Part VI).

When there are many participants, an additional round may be organized.

 


IV. Clothes

SELECTIVE ROUNDS

Dancers of all groups shall perform the Compulsory Variation wearing ballet class clothes.

Groups 1-6 – ballet slippers, Groups 7-8 – either ballet slippers or points.

THE FINAL

Category A:

The Compulsory Variation shall be performed wearing ballet class clothes.

For girls – sleeveless pastel color ballet class costume, possible mini skirt, without decorations (spangles, beads, etc.).

Groups 1-6 – ballet slippers, Groups 7-8 – pointe shoes.

Soft and minimal make-up shall be allowed. Intense make-up shall be scored negatively.

The Classical Variation shall be performed wearing a stage costume.

Groups 1-5 – ballet slippers, Groups 6-8 – points.

Category B:

The Compulsory Variation shall be performed wearing a stage costume.

Category 1-6 – ballet slippers, Groups 7-8 – either ballet slippers or points.


V. Awards

In each age group:

  • Gold Medal
  • Silver Medal
  • Bronze  Medal

All participants shall be awarded diplomas of the Competition.

The best participants of the Competition shall be awarded the prizes established by sponsors of the Competition, as well as cups and statuettes.

Next year, the winner of the Competition shall have to dance with the older age group.


VI. Registration procedure and term

Registration shall take place until all vacancies available for participants of the Competition are filled fully. The number of vacancies shall be limited; priority shall be given to the participant who was the first to file the application.

The deadline for registration for the SELECTION ROUND shall be 15 May 2017; video shall be sent by 31 May 2017; if the registration is not stopped, the video may be sent until 1 October 2017.

  • Completed registration form;
  • Copy of payment order of the fee (for the payment order details see Part VIII);
  • Copy of the document attesting the age;
  • Completed and signed the form of consent with the Competition conditions in MS Word or PDF formats.

The music and video record of the Compulsory Variation can be downloaded via the Internet.

The number of participants which organizers have the right to admit shall depend on the time designated for the Competition.

For the SECOND ROUND – a new registration! Until 15 October 2017

  • Completed registration form;
  • Two photos of the participant: portrait photo – for obtaining a permit, and full-length photo in ballet class clothes taken in the hall or on the stage. See example at the bottom of this page. The photo must be of good quality and reflect the current age of the participant;
  • Copy of payment order of the fee (see Part VIII for payment order details);
  • Copy of the document attesting the age;
  • Completed and signed the form of consent with the Competition conditions in MS Word or PDF formats.

These documents may be attached to the completed online registration form (see registration section of the website or e-mailed to info@vilniusballetcompetition.com.

The number of participants which organizers have the right to admit shall depend on the time designated for the Competition.

 


VII. Evaluation

Evaluation criteria:

  1. Artistry, courage, and individuality 1-20
  2. Technical facility, control, and coordination 1-20
  3. Physical suitability 1-20
  4. An imaginative and sensitive response to music 1-20

When there are many participants in the FINAL, an additional round may be organized.


VIII. Competition fee

SELECTIVE ROUNDS

The Competition participant’s fee – EUR 20.

The teacher’s participation shall be free of charge.

Spectators can buy tickets when they arrive to watch the Competition; the price – EUR 5, entry for children under 6 years of age – free of charge (please bring the document attesting the child’s age).

Video evaluation fee – EUR 15

THE FINAL

The Competition participant’s fee

Category B – EUR 30

The teacher’s participation shall be free of charge.

Spectators can buy tickets upon arrival to watch the Competition; the price – EUR 8, entry for children under 6 years of age – free of charge (please bring the document attesting the child’s age).

IX. Competition jury

 

The Jury of the Competition shall consist of the most outstanding Lithuanian and European ballet pedagogues.


X. Photography, video, etc.

Spectators shall be allowed to take photos only from their seats. In order to approach the stage an advance permit of the organizers shall be required. Photos may be taken only without flash so as not to disturb the dancers.

During the Competition, clapping shall be allowed only when the music stops playing and the performer takes a bow. Any shouts in support of the performer shall be assessed to the performer’s detriment. Giving flowers to the performer during the Competition shall not be allowed.

 


XI. General information

The information on the time of arrival, stage rehearsals and workshops that will take place during the Competition shall be announced one week before the beginning of the Competition.
